Spa Class Blog

Welcome back to Spa Class, it has been wonderful to see the sun shining this week and we’ve been exploring outside!

In English, we continued reading "Same, same but different" – our words of the week were "contrast" and "identical". We discussed how sometimes we like things that are the same, and sometimes we like things which are different. We talked about our favourite flavours of ice-cream; Sophie said “I like raspberry ice-cream”, whereas Elijah said he preferred “chocolate ice-cream”. Spiderman was also a very popular choice of toy, with lots of children voting it as one of their favourite things to play with, including Flora, Theo and Daisy. However, Archie and Noah preferred to play with cars; as Robyn summarised, “same, same, same but different!”. Later in the week, we enjoyed designing our own houses based on those which we had seen in the texts. Marwa included “My family looking through the windows of my house”, Rudi had a “path and windows”, and Jaxon added “stairs, the attic and a garden with flowers!”. This week we have read a very musical We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, a play about a hungry lion, and some funny poetry; thank you Spa Class, for sharing your love for reading!

In Phonics we learnt the phoneme ‘u’ for under and up! Our nursery rhyme was Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and everyone sang it beautifully together! On this week’s visit with Bertha the Bus, we saw an umbrella!

We focused on reinforcing our understanding of counting and the numerals to five this week in Maths. We explored making monsters, with the number of eyes matching the numeral on the card – we even gave them matching snacks! Later in the week, we practised our number formation and made caterpillars based on the numeral we read, further developing our number sense and cardinality.

In RE we continued learning about Salvation and what Christians believe happened at Easter. Sophie said “Jesus was behind a huge rock to keep him safe”, and Rosie added “He went to Heaven up in the sky”. We also enjoyed following up our discussions by singing ‘Hosanna’!

We have started a new Learning Means the World topic for this half term - No Place Like Home! In the Curiosity Cube this week, we had a cup and saucer, and discussed who our dream tea party guest would be… Albie said “a T-rex as I want to ride on it” and Theo added “Bob the Builder” and Elijah said “everyone in the whole class!”. In our mystery bag we had some tiny furniture. We talked about who would fit in the furniture, Sophie said “a dolly would fit in there!”. In provision we have enjoyed building houses, drawing house plans and drawing who lives in our homes. Elijah said “I’ve made a house for the three little pigs. I’m the big bad wolf going to blow it down!”. We have also been enjoying getting outside this week, Spa Bear and I have been impressed with everyone’s teamwork and pride in the outdoor area as we work to make it tidy!

Next week we will be looking at Pet Homes. To support our learning, if you have a pet at home, please do send a photo into Spa Class - either printed out or emailed in - so we can share it at circle time!
