Ouse News!

It has been an incredibly busy and productive week in Year 2. Here is a look at what we have been learning.

Maths

This week we have been focusing on measurement. We spent time comparing and ordering different lengths and heights, ensuring we used our rulers precisely. We also tackled some tricky word problems! We had to work out which of the four operations we needed to solve each problem.

Mastering Number

We are continuing to build our ‘number sense’ and mental fluency. This week we focused on near doubles. We practised using facts we already know, such as double 6 = 12, to add 1 more, which equals 13.

English

In English, we have been looking at how to make our sentences more descriptive. We have been identifying verbs and using adverbs to add extra detail to how an action is being done.

Here are some super examples:

‘The apple rolled gently down the hill’ by Oliver.

'A kitten tried to carefully avoid the gap in the floor’ by Thomas B.

'The dog ran quickly to the beautiful flowers’ by Ruby.

Learning Means the World

We have been scientists this week, naming and identifying the 5 main animal groups – mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds and fish.

RE

We have been discussing what churches look like during this special season. To reflect the themes of new life and celebration, the children used colourful tissue paper to create their own beautiful flowering crosses. We thought carefully about the different colours and what they symbolise.

Important reminders

PE Kit – Please remember that all children should come into school in their PE kits this Monday, Thursday and Friday. We have an additional, exciting cricket session on Monday alongside our usual PE sessions on a Thursday and Friday.
