Litton Class Blog: Detectives, Drama, and Digital Safety!

It has been another incredibly busy and exciting week in Year 6! Litton class has been working so hard across all of our subjects, getting hands-on with our learning and putting in some fantastic effort. Here is a look at what we have been up to this week.

💻 Special Workshop: Staying Safe Online

We kicked off our week on Monday with a special visit from Amelia at Quick Line. She ran some fantastic workshops for both Year 5 and Year 6 all about Online Safety. We dove deep into the tricky topics of Fake News and the use of AI. The sessions were incredibly useful and informative, and they really got the children thinking critically about how to navigate the digital world safely.

🕵️‍♀️ English: Reading Detectives

In English, we have been looking at two wonderful classic texts: War Horse and Black Beauty. The children put on their metaphorical magnifying glasses to become reading detectives this week! They did a brilliant job carefully scanning the texts, finding lots of subtle clues, and using them to understand the characters and settings on a much deeper level.

🧮 Maths: Ratios and Roman Numerals

Maths has been action-packed! Here is what we covered:

  • Ratio: We focused our attention on understanding and calculating ratios, cracking some quite complex problems.

  • SATs Prep: We spent some focused time looking through past SATs papers to make important, personalised revision notes.

  • Creative Revision: To top it all off, Litton class designed some absolutely amazing revision posters all about Roman Numerals—they will look brilliant up on our working wall!

💡 Science: Practical Circuits

We absolutely love practical science in Litton class! This week, we got hands-on with electricity. We investigated how to change a circuit to make a specific component work better—for example, figuring out exactly what adjustments are needed to make a bulb shine brighter or a buzzer sound louder.

🎭 RE: Bringing Stories to Life

In RE, we brought our learning to life using drama. The children worked together beautifully to act out different parts of the story of Jesus' resurrection. It was a very thoughtful lesson, and the children showed great maturity and creativity in their performances.
