Skell Class Blog

Welcome to the Skell Class blog!

In English, we have read the book ‘From Tadpole to Frog.’ The children know this is a non-fiction book. ‘Non-Fiction means it is an information book.’said Alice ‘The contents page tells you where to find pages.’ Said Ojas.

We found out about the frog life cycle and ordered and labelled the different stages. ‘It starts as frogspawn,’ said Jenson. ‘It changes to a tadpole,’ said Vinny. ‘It changes to a froglet, its tail shrinks,’ said Theo. ‘Then it is a frog,’ said Cooper.

In Maths, we have been investigating the numbers within 7.  We looked at the whole being made up of smaller parts through games, such as investigating the number of frogs in the pond and the frogs on the bank. We have used the stem sentence ‘7 is made of 5 and 2.’

In Phonics, we have been reading and writing words containing our previously taught sounds.  We have read and written the words sharp, cheep, shower and torch. We have recapped the tricky words no, go, of, into, he, she, we and written sentences like ‘I can put seven cats in a boat.’

In Learning Means the World we have recapped the map of Ripon. We have created our own Ripon maps in the construction area using construction materials.

We have been looking at pets' homes and what a pet needs.   We have created our own pet homes with cardboard boxes and materials.

In provision, we have made playdough frogs, labelled frogs, written our own tricky word labels, made a habitat for a frog, painted pictures of frogs and pets. We explored chia seeds which looked and felt a lot like frogspawn.
