There’s a rumble in the jungle… this week we have been exploring wild animal habitats!
In English we read "The Three Little Pigs" – our words of the week were "courageous" and "huff". We worked together to make a story map of the key events in the book. Emily said, “the wolf says he will huff and puff and I’ll blow the house down”, Elijah said, “The wolf has a plan, he gets a ladder”, Marwa added, “The wolf went ‘splash’ into the water”. Later in the week we acted the book out together. The three little pigs were Jaxon, Robyn and Albie, and the Big Bad Wolf was Daisy! Everyone else enjoyed the acting as houses, as well as doing some large “huffs” and “puffs” to blow the houses down! This week we shared books on Paddington, how transport works, and Spot the Dog. Thank you Spa Class, for bringing in books to share!
In Phonics we learnt the phoneme ‘h’ for hamster and ham. Our nursery rhyme was A Sailor Went To Sea. We especially enjoyed ‘singing it silly’ this week, replacing the initial sounds on all the words of our nursery rhyme with the phoneme ‘h’, this practises our understanding and familiarity with the sound. On this week’s visit with Bertha the Bus, we saw a helicopter!
This week in maths we explored length and height. We discussed when things are tall and short, and played a game about making ourselves tall and short. To help develop our understanding, we created tall and short towers using bricks. Later in the week we explored the concept of items being ‘taller’ and ‘shorter’ than each other. We made taller and shorter worms in playdough, making sure that we could articulate which one was which!
In RE we continued learning about Salvation and discussed the importance of an Easter Garden to Christians. We had a go at making our own Easter Garden in provision - we enjoyed creating our own crosses and caves in our small world area – they all look brilliant! Zaid said we should put “Jesus and a cross” in the garden and Theo added, “we need a cave and rocks”.
This week in Learning Means the World we explored wild animal habitats. In our curiosity cube this week we had a log pile and discussed different habitats which animals can be found in. Zaid said some animals “live in the jungle”, Rudi said we could find some in a “zoo”, and Robyn added, “we need to protect them together”. We also enjoyed creating drawings of the habitats which animals from around the world live in. Rudi said a crocodile lives “in green water”, Archie detailed that camels “eat grass and drink water” and Rosie added “I think giraffes live in a hot place”. We also enjoyed reaching our class treat last week… making chocolate crispy cakes! Everyone used fantastic listening skills and had fun making something delicious to take home - Spa Bear was very impressed!
We are going to be making our own shoebox rooms over the next few weeks in Spa Class. Please send your child into class with a shoebox for them to use - thank you!
