A Busy Week in Wharfe Class: Sun, SATs, and Superb Learning!
It has been an absolute whirlwind of activity here in Wharfe Class! As we gear up for our SATs, the energy in the room has been incredible. The children have been showing such maturity and resilience, and it’s wonderful to see them supporting one another through every challenge.
Here’s a little peek at what we’ve been up to:
Writing & Reading Champions ✍️
In our English sessions, we’ve been polishing our biographies. It’s been a masterclass in drafting and editing! The children have been working in pairs, sharing their writing and helping each other refine their sentences and perfect their spelling. This collaborative spirit is making a huge difference in the quality of their work.
Mastering Angles in Maths 📐
We’ve been getting stuck into geometry this week. From mastering the precision needed to use a protractor to calculating missing angles, the class is becoming quite the group of mathematicians! We’ve focused on:
- Finding missing angles on a straight line (180 degrees) and inside a triangle (180 degrees).
- Identifying the properties of equilateral, isosceles, scalene, and right-angled triangles.
Cricket in the Sunshine 🏏
Tuesday was a definite highlight! We were joined by a fabulous cricket coach for a session out on the field. We soaked up the sunshine while learning the rules of the game and practising our skills. There were some impressive hits and fantastic teamwork on display—it was the perfect way to burn off some energy!
Theo said, “It has been the best week ever because we have been able to play on the field again.” Here’s to many more playtimes on the field and in the sunshine – fingers crossed!
Learning Means the World: Our Changing Planet 🌍
Our "Learning Means the World" sessions have been deeply thought-provoking. We’ve been discussing the global impact of climate change, specifically comparing the devastating effects of drought in Ethiopia to the flooding in Bangladesh.
The children have poured their knowledge into double-page spreads, combining detailed information with beautiful, hand-drawn illustrations. They are truly stunning pieces of work that show a real empathy for people affected by these environmental changes.
Reflection: The Easter Story ✝️
As we approach the holidays, we’ve also spent time reflecting on the events of Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We’ve explored the significance of these days for Christians and discussed how they are remembered and celebrated in the modern world.
A note from Mrs Griffiths: I am so incredibly proud of how Wharfe Class is tackling their revision while remaining so creative and kind to one another. Keep up the amazing work!
