Happy Easter Spa Class!
In English this week we read “We’re going on an egg hunt” – our words of the week were celebration and spring! We enjoyed reading the book together and discovering all the hidden eggs, and other surprises under the flaps! We also wrote a letter to the Easter bunny. We included information on eggs, chicks and happy bunnies. We have been working hard to write our names in our own Easter cards to take home! This week we shared books about mismatched dinosaurs, a glowing dinosaur egg, and a group of cat friends – thank you for bringing in books to share!
In Phonics we learnt the phoneme ‘f’ for fish, fan and first! Our nursery rhyme was Hey Diddle Diddle; everyone enjoyed joining in with the actions, especially the dish running away with the spoon! On this week’s visit with Bertha the Bus, we saw a flamingo!
In Maths this week we looked at capacity, discovering the meaning of full, half full, nearly full, nearly empty and empty. We experimented with coloured water, looking at filling containers until they were full and then emptying it back out until it was completely empty. We also compared how different sized containers hold different amounts of water, increasing our understanding of volume. Later in the week we had a real world maths lesson – we combined our class treat and maths while making jelly! We learnt that we needed a full bottle of water for the jelly mixture, and explored pouring the jelly mixture until each mould was full to the very top! When it was time to try the jelly, we sang Jelly on a Plate with the actions, everyone had a go at trying their jelly, Sophie said that it was “delicious!”.
In RE we celebrated Easter during our Easter day. We also participated in Holi celebrations with the rest of the school – it was very exciting to see the brightly coloured paint everywhere!
This week in Learning Means the World we completed our topic on houses. We finished making our shoe box rooms, and put them together to make a large house, which looks fantastic! We also talked about more unusual houses - exploring who might live in a cave through We’re Going on a Bear Hunt! This week we have also been celebrating Easter and the seasons changing to Spring. In the curiosity cube there was a little Easter bunny, and we discussed what she might bring - Elijah thought “Chocolate eggs?”. Later in the week she brought us a giant egg into the classroom; Daisy predicted “I think she might fly around the room and then it will open!”. When the egg opened it turned out we had instructions for an Easter Egg Hunt outside - we had a lot of fun exploring and using our observational skills to spot them all! We have also been making a lot of Easter crafts, combining our understanding of colour mixing to make pastel colours, using our designing skills to decorate our Easter bonnets and developing our fine motor skills to create our Easter cards and decorations!
It was lovely to see so many of you at Parents’ Evening this week. Well done to everyone in Spa Class, it has been a very busy term and you have all achieved so much - Spa Bear and I are very proud! We hope you have a good Easter break, and we will look forward to seeing you in the Summer Term!
