Consultations
Holy Trinity Primary School is proposing changes to the school's admissions arrangements for the academic year 2028-2029.
In accordance with the statutory UK Department for Education’s School Admissions Code, this public consultation will run for a minimum 6-week period from Friday 16th October 2026. We invite feedback from parents, carers, local residents, neighbouring schools, and other interested stakeholders.
Summary of Proposed Changes
We are proposing five specific updates to our policy. These changes are designed to ensure absolute clarity for families, rectify an outdated clause, and guarantee full compliance with national legal frameworks.
1. Introduction of new category. We are proposing to introduce a 6th oversubscription criterion: children living outside the catchment area.
This adjustment ensures our admissions policy is fully inclusive and transparent. By adding a 6th criterion, we ensure that every single child who applies, including those living outside our designated catchment area who do not meet any other criteria, is formally accounted for and ranked fairly using our standard distance tie-breaker.
2. Clarification of Sibling Priority Timeline. We have reworded Criterion 3 to add absolute clarity for families planning their applications. By specifying that an older sibling must be on roll at the school at both the time of application and the time of actual admission, we remove any ambiguity regarding children in Year 6 who will leave the school before the younger sibling starts. This protects the fairness of the system and ensures parents have an accurate understanding of their application's priority status from day one.
3. Correction of Local Authority Reference. We have removed the statement: "We will offer places to children in the following order of priority based on the criteria outlined by North Yorkshire Council's Admission Policy". This section has been removed as it is factually incorrect; there is no such priority order set by North Yorkshire Council. Removing it prevents confusion regarding how applications are handled.
4. Application of Criteria (PAN). We have updated a statement: "Oversubscription criteria only apply where the number of applications exceeds 60." Following previous adjustments to our school structure, the Published Admission Number (PAN) for both Reception and Year 3 is now 30 (reduced from 60). This is an administrative update to ensure the policy text accurately matches our current active intake capacity.
5. Statutory Compliance. We have removed the statement: "Preference will be given to children moving into the area from outside the Local Authority area who do not have a school." This clause was removed to ensure full compliance with the statutory School Admissions Code. Legally, all places must be allocated strictly in accordance with published oversubscription criteria when a school is full.
