National Numeracy Day!
Gosh, we've made it to May half-term already! The year truly seems to be flying by.
This week, the class have really impressed me. They took on board a request to truly focus on presentation in their 'independent write' work for 'The Disgusting Banana,' leading to some fantastic work of which they should be extremely proud. It's also been lovely to see them continue to draw upon the wonderful experience at Bland Close Farm, and also to hear from parents how much the class enjoyed and learned from it.
In Maths, we have been looking at non-unit fractions and contrasting them with unit fractions. Wren explains, "The numerator is always greater than one in a non-unit fraction." We have also explored equivalent fractions for the first time, for example, that 2/4 is equivalent to 1/2. The class has been working really hard on using correct mathematical language to explain the process they follow to answer questions. We've also been remembering that it is great to spot our 'marvellous mistakes' because we find out so much about our learning when we make and correct them.
On Wednesday, it was National Numeracy Day. Thank you for the fantastic use of numbers. While it was confusing to have at least two Phil Fodens in class, it was great to see the excitement everybody showed when displaying their favourite numbers. The focus this year was on money, so we designed our dream ice creams, with a generous 50p budget! Jenny loved drawing the ice creams. Her favourite topping was Mint Choc-Chip, which cost 10p. We also had some Numbots time to sharpen our number, place value, addition, and subtraction skills. Nola said, "I am going to practise at home to get even better at maths!"
Please have a fantastic holiday, and we will see you again in June!
