Esk News!

Welcome back to our blog! We have enjoyed the sunshine this week!
In Maths we have continued to learn about fractions. We have been finding fractions of amounts. It was challenging but we all persevered!
Can you solve this question?
In English we have been creating fact files. We used a range of pages in our anthology to retrieve exciting facts!
Below are some that we would like to share:
Nancy learnt that tigers are good swimmers.
Tiana found out that tigers pounce on their prey.
Sineth learnt that a tiger is a significant creature in Hinduism.
Troy learnt about a tiger's diet which mainly consists of buffalo and deer.
In Learning Means the World we have been learning about the rainforest. We have learnt that there are two types of rainforests - temperate and tropical. In our unit we are focusing on the Amazon Rainforest, which is the biggest tropical rainforest in the world. We learnt about the different layers in the rainforest and some of the plant and animal species that live there. Emily was excited to find out that there are 2.5 million insects in the Amazon! Troy was amazed to discover that there are approximately 1,300 species of birds!
In Guided Reading we have started our new text, 'Tropical Rainforests'. We used the front cover to make predictions about the book. Our book is non-fiction and contains a glossary, index and further resource section. We have learnt why these features are important for the reader.
