Esk News!

Welcome back! We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year!
In Maths we have started a new unit 'Multiplication and Division'. We used the greater than, less than and equal to symbols to compare multiplication sentences.
In Mastering Number we have learnt what 'addend' and 'sum' mean.
3 + 4 = 7
4 + 3 = 7
3 and 4 are addends and 7 is the sum. When the order of the addend changes the sum remains the same!
We are very excited to start out new English text, 'The Works', which is a book full of poems! We looked at a range of poetry taken from the book and discussed what we liked and disliked about the different poems. Emily enjoyed 'A Postcard from School Camp' because it started off complaining until the end it became positive! Tiana liked the poem 'Skip' because it contained rhymes.
In Learning Means the World we started out new unit 'Lindow Man'. We learnt about Skara Brae. Did you know that it was discovered accidentally when a storm blew the sand which uncovered Skara Brae in 1850!
Below is a bird's eye image of what Skara Brae (located on the Orkney Islands in Scotland) looks like now.
