This week in Nidd!

Welcome back, we hope everyone had a restful half term.

We launched our new Learning Means the World unit, ‘Athens v Sparta’ on Monday with an afternoon of Greek culture. We began by learning some Greek words for greetings and numbers to 10. We tasted some Greek foods including Greek yoghurt, black and green olives, tsatsiki, feta cheese and pitta bread. We finished the afternoon with a dance lesson where we learned a traditional Greek dance.

In Maths we have been using the column method to subtract two numbers where an exchange is needed. This has proved quite challenging but, in true Nidd style, we have shown real resilience in our learning and, with some extra practice, we are getting there!

As we continue our English text, ‘Myth Atlas’ we are starting to gather ideas for our own myths. We have been busy creating heroes and thinking about their special powers and magical objects. After making fact files for a range of characters, we then wrote character descriptions using some amazing adjective choices.

Our ‘Big Question’ in RE this term is ‘What is the Trinity’. We started by watching the story of Jesus’ baptism then we explored some different examples of art work that show the baptism of Jesus. It was interesting to see how different artists chose to represent the Holy Spirit and the voice of God and we then went on to create our own pictures of the scene, deciding how we wanted to represent these elements of the story.
