Nidd news!

Welcome back to the Year 3 blog! It has been another week packed with problem-solving, creativity, and some fascinating scientific discoveries. From the rainforests of South America to the inner workings of our own bodies, here is what the children have been up to.
This week, we completed our unit on multiplication and division. The children have worked incredibly hard to master some tricky concepts.
We moved beyond simple times tables to look at scaling, understanding how to make a number or object distinct times bigger or smaller. We also tackled division with remainders, learning that numbers don't always fit perfectly into groups—sometimes there are 'leftovers'!
Finally, we focused on working systematically. The children used logical thinking to combine sets of objects (for example, how many different outfits can a teddy wear if they have 3 hats and 2 scarves?) and found every possible combination without missing any. Adaeze said "I found out that if I multiply the number of items together, you can find the answer."
This week we have reached the end of our English unit, An Anthology of Intriguing Animals. To finish this unit, the class transformed into non-fiction writers. "I thought some of the facts we found were really interesting, especially finding out the sloths risk their lives to have a poo!" said Charlotte. The children researched and wrote three distinct non-fiction texts focusing on some very colourful and curious creatures: toucans, geckos and sloths.
Finally in Art with Ms Needham, we put the finishing touches to our wonderful lion masks by adding whiskers and manes! The masks look amazing and it is very clear to see how much care and hard work have gone into them!
