Nidd News!

It has been another busy and exciting week for us. We have been working so hard across all our subjects, from measuring lengths to exploring the African savannah.
In Maths, we have been getting to grips with lengths! We practised our skills in converting between millimetres (mm), centimetres (cm), and metres (m). It was a bit of a puzzle at first, but we are getting much faster at remembering that 10 mm make a centimetre and 100 cm make a whole metre. This helped us compare different lengths to see which were truly the longest or shortest.
Moving over to English, we continued our journey through our new text, 'Ask Dr. Fisher'. This week we spent some time looking at the funny side of the book! We spent time hunting for humour and chatting about how the author had achieved this. Tessa really loved the funny names the animals gave themselves when they signed off! Whether it was the silly questions or the cheeky answers, we really enjoyed picking out the best bits.
In Science, we travelled (in our imaginations!) to Africa to look at food chains. We learnt how energy passes from plants to herbivores and then to predators. We discovered that a food chain usually starts with a producer, like the grass on the plains, which provides food for animals like zebras! There were a few surprises in store. Aleksandra said, "Some of the animals that I thought were predators were actually prey!" while Adaeze told us "I was surprised at how plants can make their own food!"
Finally, we got creative in Art with Ms. Needham. Inspired by the bold, vibrant styles we have seen in African art, we used oil pastels to draw some incredible African animals. We think you'll agree that they look fantastic!
Have a lovely half term break and we look forward to seeing you all next term!
