English – Poets in the Making!
This week in English, we’ve been exploring the world of poetry—specifically Clerihews! These short, funny poems about real or imaginary people gave children a chance to play with rhythm, rhyme, and creativity. We’ve been working hard on planning our ideas, using strong vocabulary, and focusing on performance skills to bring our poems to life. Zara and Bella both really enjoyed writing Clerihews because they are short and you can write funny and non-sensical things.
Maths – Times Tables and Decimals
In Maths, we’ve had a big focus on timetables, helping to build confidence and speed with quick recall. Regular practice at home can really help with this too! We’ve also continued our work on decimals, partitioning and comparing decimals. Children use place value tables to support their learning.
Geography – Learning Means the World
Our curriculum creature, Shackleton, has been helping us explore the amazing island of Fiji! We've been learning about the physical and human features of Fiji, and comparing it with Scotland and Brazil. The children enjoyed spotting similarities and differences in landscapes, weather, culture, and population. It’s been a brilliant way to connect our learning to the wider world. Georgie enjoyed learning about the physical features such as the mountains and beaches. Brooke was really interested in learning about Britain's involvement with Fiji through history.
PE
In PE, we’ve kicked off our Athletics unit with a focus on the basics: running, jumping, and throwing. The children have shown excellent sportsmanship while working on their technique, stamina, and coordination. We have also begun to learn how to play cricket, starting with practising making a good connection with the bat and ball.
Thank you for your continued support at home—whether it's reading together, practising timetables, or just chatting about the day’s learning, it all makes a big difference. Please could all homework books be brought into school as new homework sheets for this term are ready to go out.
