Swale News

What a fantastic and busy week we've had in Swale class! The children have been working incredibly hard across all subjects, and we’re excited to share some highlights with you.

English – The Paperbag Prince

This week, we have been completing our final versions of our Paperbag Prince stories. The children have written beautifully about a rundown, neglected setting that slowly transforms into something much better. It’s been wonderful to see their descriptive language develop and their understanding of how change can be shown through storytelling. Osman has enjoyed writing in paragraphs to create a story and Sophie H has enjoyed creating a character to write about.

Maths – From Money to Time

We wrapped up our unit on money and have now moved on to time. The class has been revisiting the days of the week and months of the year, and we’ve been using practical activities to help build confidence with telling the time and understanding calendars. Levi enjoyed learning the rhyme to help him remember days in each month.

PSHCE – Healthy Eating & Balanced Meals

In PSHCE, we’ve been learning all about healthy eating and what makes a balanced meal. We also explored the different skills and responsibilities needed in a school kitchen. A big highlight was when Mrs Fisher visited to answer our questions — we were amazed to discover just how much planning goes into making sure our school meals are nutritious and delicious!

RE – Comparing Places of Worship

Our focus in RE has been on places of worship and the symbols that are important to different religions. The children especially enjoyed a virtual tour of a Gurdwara, which linked beautifully to our previous learning about Sikhism. It was a great way to deepen their understanding and make meaningful connections between units.

LMTW – Slavery in America

As part of our Learning Means the World topic, we have been exploring the history of slavery in America. This has led to some powerful discussions. We also used our maths and problem-solving skills to calculate and map out the area of a slave ship. The children were shocked to see just how cramped the conditions were, and it sparked thoughtful reflections on human rights and fairness. Matthew enjoyed working as a team to problem solve and create the space.

Thank you, as always, for your support at home. We’re looking forward to another exciting week of learning ahead!
