Swale News

We have had another exciting week in Swale.
English – Blue John
Our focus text this week was “Blue John” by Berlie Doherty. We explored the beauty and mystery of gemstones and worked on creating expanded noun phrases to bring them to life. The children came up with some wonderful ideas, from “deep red, angry amethyst” to “cool, shimmering sapphires”. We then used these descriptions to build rich and imaginative setting descriptions of an underwater scene.
Maths – Times Table Connections
In maths, we’ve been exploring the 3, 6, and 9 times tables and discovering how they are all connected. The children noticed patterns such as how the 9 times table links beautifully with the 3s and 6s. We also practised fact families, helping everyone to see how multiplication and division facts fit together like puzzle pieces.
Science – Insulators and Conductors
Our scientists investigated materials and electricity this week. We learnt the difference between insulators and conductors, predicting which materials would let electricity flow through them. Then came the exciting part, testing our ideas in a hands-on experiment! There was plenty of curiosity and teamwork as we discovered which objects were insulators and which were conductors.
Poetry – Michael Rosen Day
We celebrated Michael Rosen Poetry Day with a day of poetry and creativity (and laughter!) Inspired by Rosen’s playful use of language, we experimented with vocabulary and rhythm to create our own whole-class poem titled “I am so hungry I could eat…” The children came up with imaginative and hilarious lines, from “a mountain of mashed potatoes” to “a giant jelly trampoline!”
RE – Sikhism and Guru Nanak
In RE, we continued learning about Sikhism, focusing on the life and teachings of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh faith. We discussed his message of kindness, equality, and honesty and reflected on how these values connect to our own lives and our school community.
