What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Year 4!
Maths
This week we have been focusing on our 6, 7 and 11 times tables. The children have been brilliant at spotting patterns in the number sequences and using these to help them recall facts more quickly. We explored how the numbers grow, how digits repeat, and how some patterns link to other times tables we already know. Keep practising at home, every bit of fluency helps.
English
In English, we have been planning the final write of our stories inspired by Blue John. Our focus has been on using similes, powerful verbs, and expanded noun phrases to bring our underwater scenes to life. The children have been working hard to paint vivid pictures with their words, describing shimmering caverns, glowing waters, and mysterious sea creatures. We can’t wait to see their finished stories next week!
Learning Means the World – Democracy
As part of our Learning Means the World curriculum, we explored the theme of democracy. We learnt about its history, why it is important, and how it works in everyday life. The children took part in a lively class debate and finished with a vote so they could see democracy in action. They shared their opinions confidently and listened respectfully to each other, well done Swale!
RE
In RE, we learnt about the Mool Mantra, the first prayer in the Guru Granth Sahib, and explored the Sikh belief that God is formless. The children created thoughtful and imaginative pieces of artwork to represent this idea, using shape, colour and symbolism to express something that cannot be seen. Theana's example is shared above!
Anti-Bullying Week
This week was also Anti-Bullying Week. As a class, we discussed what bullying means, how it makes people feel, and what we can do to make sure everyone feels safe and included. The children created posters to share their messages about kindness, respect and standing up for others.
