Another busy week in Swale!
In English, we have been enjoying learning about how information is shared through images and texts as part of our Marvin and Milo topic. This week, we focused on using time adverbials and imperative verbs in our instruction writing. We also blended Science and English by carrying out an inflatable balloon experiment, where we used a chemical reaction to inflate a balloon rather than filling it with air. James particularly enjoyed taking responsibility for making sure everyone had the correct equipment for the experiment.
In Maths, we have been dividing 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. The class have worked hard to find the most efficient ways to partition numbers and calculate remainders, showing excellent resilience and perseverance when tackling more challenging problems. It was great to see pupils confidently explaining their thinking and not giving up when calculations became tricky. We also welcomed another group of parents into class to hear about the Year 4 Multiplication Check and how TTRockstars can be used to support times tables learning. Well done to Emily and Henry who have joined Nancy and Theana 'Going Green' in TTRS this week!
In RE, we learned about the Sikh festival of Vaisakhi and the founding of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh. We explored the different elements of the festival, their symbolism, and discussed what it means to be courageous and how we can be courageous in our own lives.
In PE, Harrogate Football Club visited to teach us some new football skills, focusing on our reactions. We also continued developing our netball skills, with the class demonstrating excellent teamwork and positive sportsmanship throughout.
In Learning Means the World, we continued our journey through the history of slavery, learning about Sojourner Truth and how she raised awareness through sharing her own powerful story. We created detailed timelines of her life using imagery and information, as well as artwork depicting slavery and highlighting the importance of stopping child labour. In Art, we have been very busy creating drawings for our Banksy-style stencils around the theme of Freedom, linking closely with our Learning Means the World topic.
It has also been National Storytelling Week, which we have woven into our days by enjoying children’s favourite books from home. Charlotte shared Cave Baby, Sineth brought in Paddington, which made us laugh a lot, and Emily shared a beautiful book written by her aunt, who is an author.
