Year 4 Swale – A Wonderful Week of Reading!

Year 4 Swale have had a fantastic week filled with exciting reading-themed activities and opportunities to explore our love of books.

We started the week with a special trip to Ripon Library, where everyone had the chance to choose some new books to enjoy. We spent time discussing the kinds of books we like to read and sharing our opinions about different stories, authors and genres. It was wonderful to see everyone so enthusiastic about finding their next great read.

Back in class, we continued reading our English text, A River. Inspired by the story, we have begun building a rich vocabulary to help us create our own imaginative journeys through a forest. To help us gather ideas, we visited the woodland area for a nature walk. The sights, sounds and smells of the woods helped us think of lots of descriptive words that we can use in our writing. Troy also enjoyed showing us the Forest School area, which made our visit even more special.

We also celebrated World Book Day, which gave us a brilliant opportunity to share our love of reading. We talked about our favourite characters and some of the books we have enjoyed reading recently. We discussed how books can take us to new places, spark our imaginations and introduce us to new adventures. Everyone then had the chance to visit a different teacher to listen to a story, which was a lovely way to experience new books and storytelling styles.

In RE, we have been learning about the Last Supper. We explored the important symbols that help Christians remember Jesus and the sacrifice he made. The class had some thoughtful discussions as we reflected on why these symbols are meaningful to Christians.
