Ouse News!

Hello everyone! We've had a busy, creative week in Year 2!

Maths

This week, we started our new unit on Multiplication and Division. We've been focusing on making equal groups. The children have been using counters and drawings to see how 3 + 3 + 3 is the same as 3 groups of 3.

Mastering Number

In our Mastering Number sessions, we have been looking at teen numbers. We are learning that these aren't just random digits, they are always made of "1 ten and ___ more".

English

Our classroom has been full of intrigue as we started our new book, The Boy Who Cried Ninja. We spent time playing 'book detectives' by looking closely at the front cover. The children made some brilliant predictions about the plot and debated whether the story was fiction or non-fiction.

Learning Means the World

In our Learning Means the World unit, we used chromebooks to research the life of Walt Disney. We then, used Google Docs to create posters. We practised:

- Changing font styles and sizes

- Searching for and inserting images

- Organising information clearly

RE

We explored the festival of Chanukah. We learnt the story behind the festival and the significance of the Menorah.

Reading Books

To ensure all children can participate in our reading lessons, we have a strict schedule for our books:

- Friday: Books are sent home.

- Monday: Books must be returned to school.

The books we send home are part of small, specific sets used for reading practice sessions during the week. When a book isn't returned on Monday, we don't have enough copies for the next group of children to read.

Currently, we have quite a few books missing. Please have a look at home and if you find any please send them back to school as soon as possible.

Thank you,

Year 2 Team
