Lovely Litton Class Blog!
What a wonderfully busy week we have had in Year 6 as we get back into the swing of lessons and school life!
In maths this week we have been delving into place value-working with numbers up to 10,000,000. We have been using a range of resources, including place value charts, to aid our learning and have been looking at some questions to get us really thinking, such as: 'how many thousands make a million?'. Kyra and Ben were really quick at working out that this would be one thousand thousands!
In English we have been looking at 'etymology' - studying the history and root of words. As part of this, we have revised the terms prefix and suffix.
The children have also been given their first taste of SATS papers this week - we have been so impressed with their attitudes and behaviours around the tests and all of them have approached them with a positive mindset - well done Litton class! These first 'mock' papers will give us an idea as teachers where we need to focus certain work this year and will help us to look at groupings of children for English and Maths in the coming weeks. More information will follow on this.
In Learning Means the World we have looked at a range of inventions and learnt all about the terms 'copywriting' and 'patent'. We had some super work created on this which we will look forward to showing you soon!
