Litton Class Blog

Another super week here in Litton Class!

English and Maths Groupings

This term saw the introduction of our new English and Maths groupings, and we've been incredibly impressed with how smoothly the children have settled in. It's not always easy adapting to new settings, new peers, and for some, new adults, but the children have embraced the changes with maturity. They are taking to the new challenges and work incredibly well, demonstrating great focus and a willingness to learn. Keep up the fantastic effort, Litton Class!

What We've Been Learning

English: Powering Up Our Words ✍️

In English, we've been focusing on making our writing pop! We've been looking at how to uplevel our verbs—moving from 'boring' simple verbs to powerful, evocative ones. For example, instead of just saying "The dog ran", we might say "The dog sprinted, darted, or streaked!" This skill is essential as we work on our exciting writing project about a cracking contraption! The children are learning how careful word choice can transform their narrative and truly engage the reader.

Maths: Factors, Multiples, and Reasoning 🐞

Maths has been all about factors and multiples this week. We’ve been using a creative approach by making factor bugs to help us identify and list the factors of different numbers. It's a great visual way to understand this concept!

Learning Means the World: Time, Science, and Design 🌍

Our Learning Means the World topic has taken us through time and space! We've explored the history of music by creating a timeline of the guitar, discovering its journey through the centuries. We've also delved into the world of Sir Isaac Newton, learning all about his laws of motion and, yes, the famous apple story!

We even became designers and entrepreneurs! The children had a blast setting up their very own card company, complete with creating a unique logo and designing a bespoke card. This involved planning, sketching, and making creative decisions—a great way to combine art and enterprise!

Harvest and Buddies 🍎

Our Harvest celebration in church was a truly lovely event. Hearing the whole school sing together was such a joy, and the children participated wonderfully.

We also have to give a massive shout-out to our class for their exceptional work as Reception buddies! It made us so proud to see them in their roles, looking after the newest, smallest members of the school. They demonstrated such kindness, responsibility, and patience—they are fantastic role models!

Best wishes,

The Litton Class Team 😊
