🌟 Weekly Update from Litton Class
It has been another busy and thought-provoking week in Year 6. We have tackled everything from grammar and fractions to some of life’s biggest questions.
Here is a look at what we have been up to:
🦸 English
This week, we have been sharpening our grammar skills by focusing on modal verbs (e.g., might, could, must) and imperative verbs (bossy verbs!). We aren't just learning rules, though; we are putting them into action. The children have started drafting instructional pages on "How to Become a Superhero (or Villain!)". It has been wonderful to see them using these sentence structures to command their readers and describe the powers they "must" acquire!
➗ Maths
In Maths, we have been working hard on finding fractions of amounts. To keep things lively and check our understanding, we played a mathematical version of "Would You Rather?". It was a fun way to practice the skill, forcing us to calculate two different amounts before deciding which option was actually the "better deal."
🌍 Learning Means the World
This week took a moving turn as we learned about the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. We watched his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech, which was incredibly powerful to witness (and admittedly got Mrs Gomes a little emotional!).
Inspired by Dr. King, the class wrote their own speeches about their dreams for inclusivity in the world today. The maturity and empathy the children showed in their writing were truly commendable.
🕯️ RE
We have been having some very deep discussions in RE. We continued to explore different reasons people believe in God, specifically looking at the intersection of science and faith. We researched four scientists who are also Christians and asked some really thoughtful questions about how people hold both views simultaneously.
We learned about:
- Professor Denis Alexander, who believes that science and faith are "friends, not enemies" and that they go hand in hand.
- Professor John Polkinghorne, whose quote really resonated with the class: he stated that Christianity and Science are like "looking out of two windows at the same truth."
📢 Important Reminders
🕺 School Disco! Don't forget that the School Disco is coming up next week.
- Please ensure all permission forms and money are brought into school ASAP.
Have a wonderful weekend!
