Litton Class: Superheroes, Species, and Spirited Debates!

What another fantastic week we have had in Litton Class. From the depths of the rainforests to the complexities of superhero personalities, the children have been working incredibly hard. Here is a look at what we have been up to.

🌿 Science: Biomes and Botanists

In Science, we have been continuing our exploration of the natural world. We started by looking at biomes—the large communities of flora and fauna occupying major habitats. To help us understand the sheer variety of life within these biomes, we learnt how to use and create classification keys, breaking down complex groups into identifiable species.

We then put our creative caps on to design our very own plants! But there was a catch—the plants had to have specific adaptations to survive in a chosen hostile environment. It was wonderful to see the children applying scientific logic to their creations, thinking about how root systems, leaf shapes, and water storage are vital for survival.

RE: A Visit from Matt

We were so lucky this week to have Matt from Holy Trinity Church visit us. He gave us a fascinating personal insight into why he believes in God, where those beliefs come from, and why others might have different views.

The highlight of the session was the maturity Litton Class showed during the Q&A. We had the opportunity to ask some super questions that really got us thinking:

  • Will asked a great hypothetical question: "If you had to choose another religion, what would it be?"
  • Vedant explored the relationship between logic and faith, asking: "Are Religion and Science friends?"
  • Daisy asked a very brave and honest question: "Is it okay for people to not like God?"

Matt was brilliant at answering these, and it was a great opportunity for the class to see how respectful dialogue works, even when discussing big, personal topics.

✍️ English: Villains and Heroes

We have gone even deeper into our Superhero and Villain texts this week. The writing process has been very rigorous! We aren't just writing; we are refining.

The class has been carefully editing their work based on specific feedback, looking for ways to up-level their vocabulary and sentence structures. We have now moved on to drafting the paragraphs concerning personality and characteristics. The focus has been on "showing, not telling"—using actions and dialogue to reveal if a character is courageous, cunning, or chaotic.

Maths: The Big Three

In Maths, we have been tackling a key concept that prepares us for secondary school: Equivalence. We have been looking at the relationship between Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages. The class has been learning how to convert between these different forms to solve problems. It can be a tricky topic, but Litton Class is rising to the challenge!

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
