A week in wonderful Wharfe!

What a wonderful first week in Wharfe!

We have been very busy in Wharfe this week.  We are loving our new classroom and our new topics for the half-term.  In English, we have been learning how to use a dictionary and all the amazing things that a dictionary can tell us.  We have also been looking at the origins of words and we were very amused to find out that the word 'bicep' means 'little mouse'.

In Maths, we have been looking at place value and number up to 10 million.  It has been lovely to see all the knowledge that the children have remembered from last year!

In Learning Means the Word, our topic is called 'A World of Bright Ideas' and we have been looking at inventions and inventors. We have also been learning about how to keep our inventions safe through the use of copyright and patents. This has been very interesting indeed! The children had a go at writing their own patent for a well-known product and I was astonished at how well they did. We have some budding inventors in our midst.

The class are very excited about the Colour Run next Friday, so get your forms in as soon as possible please.
