Year 6 Wharfe Class Take East Barnby by Storm!
Well, what can we say? Wharfe Class has returned victorious from an incredible three-day adventure at East Barnby Outdoor Centre near Whitby! We’re tired, we’re maybe a little bit wet, but we’re absolutely buzzing from the experience!
From the moment we arrived, the sun was shining down on us, making the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside the perfect playground. We didn't waste any time getting stuck into the activities.
From Beck Scramble to Beach Bliss
One of the biggest highlights was definitely Beck Scrambling in the chilly waters of West Beck. We climbed over rocks, waded through the river, and navigated the mini-waterfalls—it was an exhilarating test of balance and bravery! We also took to the water for a brilliant morning of Canoeing on the River Esk. The views were stunning, and we all managed to stay (mostly) dry while paddling along together.
Thursday started with a fantastic session of Body Boarding at Sandsend Beach. The waves were great, and seeing everyone laughing and surfing the waves was brilliant.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
While we shone in the great outdoors, we have to admit one thing was a massive challenge: making our beds! It turns out duvet covers and fitted sheets are far trickier than battling a river. However, despite the bedding struggles, the teamwork on this trip was phenomenal. Whether we were helping each other up a slippery bank, steadying a canoe, or just tidying our dorms, the spirit of collaboration in Year 6 was brilliant. It's clear that three days away has made us an even stronger team.
And as for sleeping? Despite the initial excitement, the fresh air and non-stop activities meant we all slept incredibly well each night, ready for the next day's adventure.
A Fabulous Time for All
We truly had a fabulous time, and huge credit goes to all the students for their enthusiasm, resilience, and great behaviour. Even the teachers managed to have fun, even if the name of their small, slightly-too-warm room was, shall we say, a little dramatic—yes, it was actually called "Depression"! Don't worry, we kept our spirits up!
A massive thank you to the brilliant staff at East Barnby and to the amazing staff who came with us. We are looking forward to sharing our experiences and photographs with you all on Friday 24th October.
