Wharfe Blog Post
It has been another whirlwind of a week in Year 6, and the energy in Wharfe class is absolutely electric. From mastering complex numbers to creating the next generation of caped crusaders, our pupils have been pushing themselves to new heights.
Here is a look at what we’ve been up to:
🔢 Maths: The Power of Place Value
We’ve been diving deep into the world of decimals this week. The children have been honing their skills in rounding decimals to the nearest whole number, tenth, and hundredth.
But the real "aha!" moments came when we explored the "Golden Links"—the connections between fractions, decimals, and percentages.
✍️ English: Heroes, Villains, and Polished Prose
Our budding authors have moved on to a very exciting part of their character descriptions: Personality. Whether they are designing a noble protector of the city or a misunderstood, shadowy villain, the children are using sophisticated vocabulary to bring their characters' inner lives to life.
We are also focusing on the "secret sauce" of great writing: refining and editing. We’ve been looking at our work with a critical eye, swapping out tired verbs for powerful ones and ensuring our punctuation is spot on. The goal? Taking our work from "great" to "absolutely amazing."
🌿 Learning Means the World: The Animal Kingdom
In our "Learning Means the World" sessions, we’ve turned into mini-biologists. We have been exploring the vast diversity of life on Earth and learning how to classify animals based on their characteristics. To help us navigate this, we’ve been using and even creating our own classification keys.
🙏 A Special Guest in RE
A huge highlight of the week was our RE session. We are currently tackling a very deep "Big Question": Why do some people believe in God and some don't?
To help us explore this, we were joined by Matt from the church. As always, Matt was his brilliant, entertaining, and deeply inspiring self. He shared his perspectives and answered some of the class’s most challenging questions with honesty and wit. It gave us all a lot of food for thought.
