Wharfe Blog Post

Welcome Back, Wharfe Class!
What a whirlwind start to the new half-term! It’s been wonderful to see everyone back in the classroom with such energy and focus. We have hit the ground running with some fascinating new topics, and we couldn't be prouder of how the children have stepped up as leaders already.
Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:
🌟 Online Safety Superstars
A massive "well done" goes out to the pupils who took part in our recent Online Safety Workshop for parents.
It can be a bit daunting to speak in front of adults, but our Wharfe ambassadors were absolutely wonderful. They shared their own digital experiences with honesty and maturity, helping to bridge the gap between "kid-tech" and "parent-tech." By educating parents on the ins and outs of various online platforms, they’ve helped make our whole community a little bit safer. You were true role models!
✍️ Remarkable Lives in English
In our English lessons, we’ve turned our attention to the lives of others. We have officially started our Biography unit!
The class has been busy:
- Researching famous figures: Exploring the lives of people who have changed the world.
- Deconstructing the structure: Learning how to organise a life story—from catchy introductions and chronological events to that final, impactful concluding summary.
We can’t wait to see which "Greats" the children choose to write about as they develop their own biographical pieces.
📐 Measuring Up in Maths
We’ve been getting stuck into the world of measurement this week. The children have been mastering the concepts of Area and Perimeter.
We’ve been practising how to calculate the distance around a shape (perimeter) versus the space inside it (area). It’s been great to see the "lightbulb moments" as they apply these formulas to increasingly complex compound shapes!
🔥 Too Hot To Handle!
Our new Learning Means the World unit has officially launched, and things are heating up! Our theme is "Too Hot To Handle," and we are diving deep into a geographic focus.
The children have been navigating the globe, identifying key markers such as:
- The Equator: That all-important imaginary line around the middle.
- The Tropics: Identifying the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.
- Climate Zones: Understanding why different parts of the world experience such vastly different weather patterns, from the humid tropics to the frozen poles.
Keep Up the Great Work!
It has been a fantastic start to the term, Wharfe. Your curiosity and hard work are already shining through. Let’s keep this momentum going as we dive deeper into our biographies and climate research!
