Wharfe Blog Post

What a Week in Wharfe Class! 🌟

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Wharfe class blog! It has been an incredibly busy, productive, and thought-provoking week. From digital detective work to exploring the world through the eyes of our four-legged friends, the children have truly outdone themselves.

Here is a look at what we’ve been up to:

💻 Staying Sharp in the Digital World

A huge highlight this week was a special visit from Amelia at Quickline Broadband. She spent time with us discussing the vital importance of Online Safety.

In an era of "deepfakes" and AI, Amelia taught us some brilliant tricks for spotting images that might not be quite what they seem. The children are now officially "Digital Detectives," equipped with the skills to navigate the internet more safely and sceptically.

🔢 Masterful Mathematicians

In Maths, we have delved into the world of Ratio. We have been learning how to compare quantities and use ratio notation to solve tricky problems. Whether it's mixing paint or scaling up recipes, Wharfe class is proving that they can handle the relationship between numbers with ease!

✍️ Bringing History to Life

Our English lessons have been filled with the sounds of scratching pens as we continue our biographies. I am genuinely impressed by the subjects you’ve chosen—from world leaders to ground-breaking scientists.  Thirdy said, 'I have really enjoyed researching more about Martin Luther King. He is a very interesting and complex person.'

I’m particularly excited because many of you have picked figures I haven't heard of yet! I can’t wait to sit down and read these; I’m ready to be educated by your fantastic research.

🐴 A Change of Perspective

In Guided Reading, we’ve been horsing around—literally! We’ve been comparing the classics War Horse and Black Beauty.

It has been a fascinating exercise to look at the world through the eyes of an animal. Not only has this helped us build empathy, but it’s been a fantastic tool for expanding our vocabulary. We’re finding some wonderfully descriptive words that are really "galloping" off the page!

🎭 Gospel Greatness in RE

Finally, in RE, we have been studying the Resurrection of Jesus through the lens of Luke’s Gospel. To really get inside the story, we’ve been busy translating the biblical text into play scripts.

The Challenge: We’ve discovered that writing play scripts is actually quite a tricky skill! Balancing dialogue with stage directions takes a lot of focus, but everyone tried their absolute hardest.

Jasmine said, 'I loved the drama in my group when my friends discovered Jesus was not in the tomb.'

We even had a go at acting them out in class, bringing those ancient words to life in the modern day.

Well done, Wharfe! You’ve shown such a great attitude toward your learning this week. Rest up over the weekend—you’ve earned it!
