The Ribble Report

Read All About It... Year 5's Action Packed Week!

What a busy and brilliant week it has been in Year 5!

In English, we have started a super exciting new class book! We haven't revealed the title yet, but we kicked things off with an elicitation task focusing on the classic fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood. This task helped us explore some important themes and characters that will feature in our new story. Stay tuned to find out what we’re reading!

In maths, we have started a new topic on 'Addition and Subtraction'. We have started with column addition with multiple exchanges and sometimes even different units. These calculations can look tricky, but we’ve been spending lots of time revising how to set them out neatly and accurately in our books. Great presentation helps us get the right answer every time!

In our Learning Means the World topic, we continued orbiting the universe, specifically by focusing on the orbits of the Moon and the Earth. We discovered the fascinating process of the Moon's phases, learning how it appears to grow and shrink through waxing and waning. That was a particularly interesting discussion!

Finally, our week ended on a lovely note. On Thursday, we met as a whole school in church for our annual Harvest Service. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the season and sing together. As Anni said, "It was so nice to see all of the children together!"
