The Ribble Report

What a busy and brilliant week it has been in Year 5!
This week was all about our "Big Write" story! After we finished all of our planning, we spent a lot of time focusing and carefully writing our stories. Everyone was very quiet and worked with great concentration to get their ideas onto the paper. Then came the important job of editing our work to make it even better. We made sure to include special features like relative clauses, repetition, unusual adjectives, a variety of sentence lengths and dialogue to add character and move the story on.
In Maths we were looking at different types of numbers and finding out how they work. We learned about square numbers and found out what makes a number a prime number. We also practised finding the factors of numbers, which are the numbers that divide into it exactly.
Our Learning Means The World focus has seen us write a wonderful report on the Space Race. We watched lots of interesting videos to learning informarion ans then created a wonderful piece of writing in our books to explain it.
Of course, we have still been reading COOL. The children have been making great predictions. Brooke thought that the 'big news' was going to be about Robbie not making it out of his coma but actually it was something else... All of the children's ideas were very creative and we are really enjoying the story.
In Art, we have been hard at work on our fantastic space project, designing and creating our own planets. They are looking incredible, so make sure to check our next blog post to get a closer look!
Finally, in R.E., we finished our big topic for this half-term by answering the main question: What does it mean if Christians believe God is loving and holy? We used everything we have learned to write thoughtful answers about both of these important ideas. Well done, Year 5, for a super week of hard work and amazing focus!
We have been doing tag rugby in PE and gymnastics too - we are working very hard!
