Wensley Class Blog

A rather varied week!
It has been a varied week in Wensley. We have been writing our final 'defeating the monster' stories. These contained plenty of excitement as well as the grammatical content we have been polishing over the past few weeks.
In Maths, we have been looking at multiplying with fractions, including finding the value of the fraction and finding the value of the whole. The class has been showing excellent learning behaviours during these lessons. It was great to hear Lily excitedly share, "Ah, that makes sense!"
In Learning Means the World, we explored the difficult history of the impact of colonisation in Australia on the First Australians. We did this through creating before and after pieces of drama. We have also been exploring the reasons many settlers first came to Sydney and contrasted that with emigration to New York.
In Science, it has been great to see the group investigations into cotton wool come to life. The children have had to think like scientists to ensure their tests are fair and their recording is accurate. We will share some photos of this in future weeks.
It has also been National Storytelling Week. We focused on comics and graphic novels by exploring the 'bugbops' in the Bumble and Snug books by Mark Bradley. Sophie, Holly, Ivy, and Daisy provided some really expressive voices as we brought the comic to life. The class then very much enjoyed following a drawing tutorial and creating their own bugbop comics.
In PE, we had a great football session on Monday with Seb from Harrogate Town, followed by becoming handball masters with Mr Banks on Wednesday!
Finally, in Art, the class members have begun to create their own skyscrapers by creating 3D shape nets. We look forward to seeing a Wensley version of the New York City skyline in class soon!
