Spa Class Blog

Welcome to our Spa Class Blog.

In English we read ‘Once There Were Giants’ and our word of the week was "safe". We spoke all about growing up and turning into “giants”! We learnt about growing from a baby to a toddler, child, teenager and then an adult, and played a game all about matching actions to the words. We worked together to understand the different characters in the book and why the baby turns into a giant in the end. Theo identified it was because the “girl grew up” and Daisy said “I have giants in my house!”. This week Sophie, Theo and Daisy brought in books about owl babies, lion families and swimming with Bluey – we enjoyed reading them together as a class.

In Phonics we sang Down at the Station. We enjoyed singing it and making sounds like trains, the children were really good at “Puff! Puff! Peep! Peep! Off we go!”.

In Maths we started learning about matching things. At the start of the week we explored matching buttons and wellies, the children then used their skills for outdoor learning when we had to match our wellies and shoes! We also learnt a new maths song: Five Little Speckled Frogs – we enjoyed recreating this outside on our own log. The second half of the week was all about building matching towers, we used Duplo to match towers to pictures – the children worked really hard using their close observational skills to match everything.

In RE we learnt about how God’s name is precious and holy. We discussed the pearl story from the Bible and how we need to take care of special things. Daisy said the pearls were “special and shiny”, Noah said we would have to be careful with them as we “wouldn’t want an accident” and Elijah added so “they wouldn’t break”.

In Learning Means the World we explored labelling the body. The children have been drawing around their friends in outdoor provision and inside we have been using sticky notes to match words to our body such as “arm” and “head”. We have also been making Salt dough hedgehogs which are looking very sweet! For our Spa Bear circle time this week we explored an old phone. We passed it round the circle to see who was on the end of the line. Marwa said it was her “big brother”, Jaxon’s “Nanna” called to see how he was and Sophie’s “Mummy” rang too. At the end of the last lesson we even got a phone call from Mr Moon! At home time we got to see Mr Moon up in Space at the International Space Station. Jaxon pointed out that we could “see the Sun”, Theo noticed that it was “Earth” we could see, and Sophie saw him “fixing something to come back home”. We are celebrating space on Friday for World Space Week!
