Spa Class Blog

Welcome to our Spa Class Blog.

This week in English we continued reading ‘The Colour Monster’ - our words of the week were “peaceful” and “enraged”. Exploring the story, we talked about how each Colour Monster was feeling. Marwa said the yellow Colour Monster felt “happy, sunny”. Sophie explained the pink Colour Monster felt “loved, full of hearts”. We discussed what we thought the colour of friendship was and which Monster colours it was to us. Robyn said it was "pink and like a rainbow", Theo suggested it was the colour blue and Rudi thought purple! We also continued making our Colour Monster bracelets as well as some class joy jars - thank you to those who brought in empty plastic bottles! We shared lots of different books this week including Robyn’s alphabet book and Elijah’s The Gruffalo.

In Phonics we sang Hickory Dickory Dock. The children enjoyed singing the rhyme throughout the day, we even started learning the sign language for the song, which the children did really well!

In Maths we learnt about matching and sorting. At the start of the week we looked at how we could sort objects using colour, as well as sorting by shape. Later in the week we explored sorting things by size. We met the three bears, big, medium and small, and sorted items into their bowls to match. The children enjoyed learning new actions for our key words as well as the Goldilocks story.

In RE we continued learning about how God created our world and the wonderful creatures in it. We talked about how God created lots of amazing animals like “the chicken” as Noah said, and Hayden made sure that we “can't forget the crickets!”. We enjoyed singing “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”, the children learnt actions to go along with the song.

In Learning Means the World we celebrated Diwali earlier this week. We created our own rangoli patterns, tried mehndi patterns in painting, and made our own diya lamps. We also explored drawing faces on paper plates based on what we have learnt about over this half term; it was lovely to see how much the children have progressed. We have been finishing our autumn crafts including conker snails and leaf people which look fantastic! For our Spa Bear circle time, Spa Bear’s Mum sent us a postcard! We read it together and then wrote a letter back to her about what we had been up to over the half term. Elijah said “We have done lots of playing outside and going down slides” and Sienna contributed that "We made shiny bottles from glitter, pom poms and water for our joy jars”.

It was lovely to see so many of you at Parents Evening this week. Well done Spa Class for a super half term and I hope you all have a good half-term break!
