Spa Class Blog

“To infinity and beyond!”. This week in Spa Class we have focused on Toy Story!
In English we started reading a new book “Toys in Space” - our words of the week were “whoosh” and “whizz”. We thought about what having “lost toys” means and where we last saw some of our favourite toys. Sophie said “my tiny rainbow bag is under the sofa at home”, Elijah added his “yellow, pink and blue ball was at the park” and Zaid said his “blue, white and red firetruck was in his toybox”. After exploring what it is to describe lost toys, we decided to help Hoctopize from our story find their toy, Cuddles! Together we created a big poster to put up – we will hopefully find Cuddles for Hoctopize soon! This week we enjoyed sharing books about a magic hat and a bunny, and started reading some Christmas books.
In Phonics we learnt the phoneme ‘i’ for iguana, igloo and insect! Our nursery rhyme was One, Two buckle my shoe. The children have worked really hard with their blending games, we can now ‘t-a-p’ our heads, ‘m-ar-ch’ on the spot, and ‘c-l-a-p’ our hands! On this week’s visit with Bertha the Bus, we saw an iguana!
For Maths we started learning about A B patterns. We created A B patterns using colour, different shapes and even actions. The children enjoyed making their own A B patterns for others to copy. We worked hard understanding that one thing each time makes it into an A B pattern.
In RE we continued learning about why Christians perform Nativity plays at Christmas. We talked about Christmas traditions, Jaxon said that a tradition could be "a Christmas Bell and travelling on the Polar Express", and Sophie said one was "Baby Jesus!". We have been busy putting the finishing touches to our Christmas show which we are looking forward to performing to you next week, on Friday 12th December at 2.30pm, followed by the craft afternoon until 3.30pm. All Nursery children and families are welcome, please come along!
This week in Learning Means the World some friends from Toystory visited us! We made our own Forkys inspired by Toystory, and they all look amazing! We also watched a video clip from the first film when Buzz Lightyear and Woody meet the aliens, and used our imagination to predict what happened next. When Woody and Buzz got trapped in the alien’s rocket Jacob thought that "They are going to blast off into space". When they were trying to escape Sienna said that "Buzz might save them!". Afterwards we talked to Theo’s teddy “Bunga” from the Lion King and wondered what he might get up to at night. Jaxon said he “might make us a big hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows!”. We received a postcard from Spa Bear’s Mum this week in our Curiosity Cube, from Space! We enjoyed looking at the picture on the front of the card - a photograph from the Hubble Telescope - and reading what she has been up to. We then wrote a letter back to her about some of our favourite things from this half term. We are looking forward to Elf Day on Friday this week, Christmas is about to start in Spa Class!
