Spa Class Blog

We have had a very festive week in Spa Class!

In English we read a Christmas book, “We’re going on an elf chase” - our word of the week was “glide”. We enjoyed reading the book together and counting all of the elves hiding behind the flaps! We did a lot of letter writing this week - we wrote a letter to Father Christmas together and we also wrote our names in Christmas cards for home! Later in the week we designed our own elves based on the book. Daisy described her elf as "My elf is a Santa elf wearing lots of hats!", Rudi said "It is happy with a hat on", and Rosie added that her elf was "A very silly and very happy elf. It's crazy!". This week we shared books about a little reindeer, fluffy penguins and gingerbread!

In Phonics we learnt the phoneme ‘m’ for mouse, moon and marble! Our nursery rhyme was Wind the Bobbin Up; everyone enjoyed joining in with the actions - it is one of our favourites! On this week’s visit with Bertha the Bus, we saw a mouse!

In Maths this week we looked back at what we have learnt over this term, and joined in with a maths Nativity story! We counted how many visitors went to see Mary, Joseph and Jesus - it included three kings, one mouse and two sheep! The children enjoyed practising their fast eyes to subitise numbers up to three!

In RE we learnt about the Christmas story and enjoyed listening to and singing traditional Christmas carols.

This week’s Learning Means the World was all about Christmas. We had a lot of fun for our Christmas Party on Monday, when everyone did a lot of dancing, took turns during pass-the-parcel, and we had a great game of musical statues! A cheeky elf also visited us this week bringing some surprises..! The elf gave us ingredients to make Ooblek, everyone got stuck in exploring how it transitions between a liquid and a solid. Rosie said “it looks sticky gooey”, Jacob said “it looks like soup” and Sophie added “it’s like sticky mud!”. The elf also posed a tricky Would you rather … question: Would you rather spend a day with a penguin or a shark? Jaxon said "I'd rather be with the penguins as they play together", Daisy said "I'd want to be with the penguins as they can slip and slide to the sea", whereas Noah thought "I'd want to swim with the big and small sharks!". In our Curiosity Cube this week we had ingredients to make gingerbread! The children had a lot of fun making gingerbread figures and icing them - they looked and tasted delicious!

Well done to everyone in Spa Class this term, you have all worked really hard, Spa Bear and I are very proud. Happy Christmas to you all and we will look forward to seeing you in the New Year!
