Spa Class Blog

Welcome back to Spa Class!

It has been lovely to see everyone back for Spring term, and welcome our new starters! We have lots of exciting things planned for Spa Class in 2026!

This week in English we read Sharing a Shell, our words of the week were ‘scuttle’ and ‘share’. The children enjoyed listening to the story and then creating a storymap together. They also made their own drawings of the main characters from the book, the crab, the bristleworm and the anemone. We talked about how we could be a good friend, Emily said "we can give hugs!", and Theo added "we can share and listen to each other".

In Phonics we learnt the phoneme ‘d’ for duck and dog! Our nursery rhyme was Round and round the garden. We had some beautiful singing, and everyone did some fantastic action-based blending!

In Maths we started learning all about the number three. We have been on a number three number-hunt, played a “three” and “not three” matching game and even tried writing the numeral. We are looking forward to learning more about three next week…

We have started a new Learning Means the World topic this half term - Under the Sea! We have been improving our fine motor skills making little jellyfish and practised our gross motor skills by winding up a very large cardboard fishing rod! In our curiosity cube this week we had a little fishing set. We predicted whether or not the plastic fish would sink or float in water. Noah said "I think it will float because it is a light fish", whereas Hayden thought "I think it will sink as it's fins won't move". We then placed the fish into a bucket of water to see what would happen. Everyone enjoyed fishing in our water tray, Spa Bear and I were very impressed with the children’s turn taking!
