Happy World Book Day!
On Thursday we enjoyed celebrating World Book Day! We dressed up as lots of different characters from our favourite books including Stick Man, Woody and Mermaids, and enjoyed sharing books such as Spot the Dog, Peppa’s Mermaid Adventure and Fox has lost his socks! Spa class also had a visit from Year 2 Ouse Class, we loved listening to them read and sharing our love for reading!
In English we read "In Every House, On Every Street" – our words of the week were "wonky" and "slumber". We discussed what rooms we have in our houses and what we do in them. Archie said, “I can spot a living room”, Rudi added, “I can see games, they belong in the living room” and Marwa said, “I have three bedrooms”. Later in the week, we designed our own rooms for our houses. Noah drew “downstairs, that’s the phone and that’s the TV”, Daisy drew “Me holding a pillow by the stairs”, and Elijah said “It’s the living room, a picture of my cat and my family by the stairs”.
In Phonics we learnt the phoneme ‘r’ for rabbit and rice, we carefully practised our pronunciation of the sound! Our nursery rhyme was One, Two, Buckle My Shoe! On this week’s visit with Bertha the Bus, we saw a rainbow!
This week in maths we looked at five and six. We explored different ways of making five with numicon, creating a house for number five out of numbers which make five. Later in the week, we were introduced to 6 and its favourite story ‘Six Dinner Sid’. The children enjoyed creating all six dinners for Sid and collaboratively counting out the correct amounts for each bowl.
In RE we continued learning about Salvation and discussed what Lent means to Christians. We discussed what it means to help someone. Rudi said “I help teachers by tidying up outside”, Saimoni agreed, saying he also “tidies up” and Sophie said she “tidies at home”. We enjoyed singing ‘Hosanna’ in provision!
This week in Learning Means the World we explored Pet Homes. In the mystery bag, we had a new pet join us in the home area – a small toy dog! Following brainstorming names, including “Rainbow Dash”, “Strawberry” and “Woof”, after a random draw it is called… “Baby Rabbit”. The children have enjoyed making our new little dog friend happy and safe in our home area, making sure it has a place to eat, sleep and feel safe, increasing their understanding of our world. In our curiosity cube this week we had pictures of pets from our homes. It was lovely to share and talk about our pets and think about what we do to keep them safe. Sophie said “give them a blanket, food and water”, Jaxon said “take the dog on walks” and Rosie added “give them cuddles!”. We have also enjoyed using large pieces of cardboard outside to create large-scale paintings - Spa Bear has been very impressed with everyone’s creativity.
We are going to start making our own shoebox rooms over the next few weeks in Spa Class. Please send your child into class with a shoebox for them to use – thank you!
