Welcome to the Skell Class blog!
We have had a roarsome week in Reception!
In English we have continued to read the story ‘Dear Dinosaur’ and have looked at non-fiction books about dinosaurs. We made a fact file about dinosaurs. Tommy explained dinosaurs' teeth were as long as a ruler and a T-Rex was as big as a bus.
We have also made information posters about dinosaurs and found out about fossils. Boheme explained, ‘Fossils were made lots and lots of years ago.’ Clara explained, ‘Fossils can be plants or animals.’
In Maths we have been looking at the composition of the numbers 6 to 9 using the ‘5 and a bit’ structure, and then explored how 10 can be made in different ways. We have been practising our subitising and using our fingers to make amounts.
In Phonics we have recapped the sound air, er, and double letters bb, rr, gg, dd, pp, ff, tt. We have read and written words containing these sounds and practised the tricky words: you, they, my, by, all.
In Learning Means the World we have continued our learning about ‘What on Earth.’ We have thought about things that are big and small. We talked about whether it would be difficult to look after something big or small. Toby suggested looking after something big would be harder as it would not fit in your house. We also said it would be difficult to look after something small as it would get lost easily.
We have thought about how we know if something is old. We looked at Paddington bear and decided he was old. Emilia explained his fur was not shiny, Oli explained he was a bit broken as his tag had been ripped. We talked about how we need to carefully look after things that are old.
This week in provision, we created fossil pasta pictures, built vehicles big and long enough to transport a dinosaur, looked at fossils and dinosaur information books, created our own dinosaur fact files and made numbers in different ways using a tens frame and counters.
