Skell Class Blog

Welcome to our Skell Class blog!
In English we read the story ‘Twist and Hop, minibeast Bop.’ We spotted the rhyming words in the book, joined in with a hot seating activity and asked the minibeasts questions. Joseph asked ‘How many wings do you have?’ Theo asked ‘what do you eat?’ Amber asked ‘why do you have 8 legs?’
This week we enjoyed playing a game of guess the minibeast and described different minibeasts for our friends to guess which one. We went on a minibeast hunt and helped the snail write a list of his minibeast friends.
In Maths we have been comparing quantities using the language more, fewer and equal. We have used counting objects to explain which group has more or fewer, shown more and fewer using a rekenrek and can say one more and one fewer from a given number from 1-10.
In Phonics we have been reading and writing longer words containing double letters, such as shimmer, chatter and rubbish. We have been reading and writing longer sentences too! We have recapped the tricky words; and, go, no, of.
In Learning Means the World we have enjoyed working in the Travel Agents role-play area and have helped the ‘customers’ choose a holiday. We have been exploring the laptop and using the keyboard to find different letters.
We have learnt about the Rakhi celebration in which children in India celebrate brothers and sisters. Sisters give a bracelet to their brothers. We also talked about how India is very well-known for its different flavours of spices used in food. We smelt different spices and talked about whether we liked the smell or not. Oli explained that the Garam Masala smells like ‘gingerbread.’ Clara explained ‘it smells spicy and peppery.’
This week in provision we have been using number tracks to make up our own dice games, exploring colour mixing with paints, making minibeast books, making a minibeast bop in the construction area and creating minibeasts with junk modelling equipment.
