Skell Class Blog

Welcome to the Skell Class Blog!
In English we continued to read the story ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch.’ We looked at the perspective of the seagulls and wrote a diary about the ‘scrumptious’ lunch they had scavenged and the 'disgusting’ mustard sandwiches Mrs Grinling made to stop the seagulls taking the lunch.
We have written our own seagull diaries, retold the story on a story map and looked at some information about lighthouses. Joseph explained, ‘Lighthouses can be red and white and stripy.’ Orla explained, ‘Lighthouses help ships know where the land is.’
In Maths we have described the position of the shapes using words like between, next to, above and below. We also looked at doubles and not doubles and used the sentences ___ is made from _____ and _____ ; _____and _____ make ____.
We looked at equal amounts and know this means both groups are the same amount.
In Phonics we have continued to read and write longer words and have looked at ‘ing’ words such as zooming winking. We have recapped the tricky words; he we me be was you they all.
In Learning Means the World we looked at China. We found out facts about the Great Wall of China. Tommy remembered ‘the wall is 8 feet tall.’ Isaac remembered ‘it took 2000 years to build the Great Wall of China.’ Boheme remembered ‘the wall was to protect the people.’ We built the Great Wall of China in the Construction area. We have also looked at the Chinese celebration ‘Chinese New Year’ and dragon dance.
In RE we looked at a special place for Christians - the Church, and talked about what we might see there and why it is special. Penny suggested we might see a cross, Clara suggested we might see people praying. We thought it was special because it is a quiet place. We have also looked at how a Mosque is a special place for Muslims.
This week in provision we have drawn and painted seagull pictures, made Chinese dragon puppets, made story maps and written seagull diaries, and challenged ourselves to count amounts over 20.
