Skell Class Blog

Welcome to our Skell Class blog!

In English we continued to read the story ‘Dear Zoo.’ We have made our own ‘Dear Zoo’ books and thought of new describing words for the animals – Alistair suggested ‘hissy,’ for the snake and the lion could be ‘dangerous.’ We have made lists of zoo animals and did very well at hearing and writing the initial sounds in words. We also described animals for our friends to guess. Cooper’s clues were ‘my animal is orange, black and white and stripy. It is a tiger.’

In Maths we have been making number two and used the stem sentence, ‘one and another one is two.’  We could collect two objects. We counted out three objects for the three bears breakfast and were introduced to number four. We know four is made of one and one and one and another one. We could collect four objects independently.

In Phonics we have looked at the graphemes i, n, m, d. We have identified the initial sounds in words, identified the grapheme and can say the phoneme. We also tried very hard to write the graphemes! This week we started to blend to read simple words – sit, sat, nap, man and pan.

In Learning Means the World we have been thinking about different feelings. We could name the different feelings: happy, sad, confused, scared and angry. We played a game where children took it in turns to show an emotion. Our friends had to guess what it was.

We have also been thinking about ears. Phoebe explained we use our ears to listen, Ojas explained we can use our ears to listen to music. We thought about what it would be like not to be able to hear. Tommy said it would be ‘horrible and quiet.’ Alice explained this was called being ‘deaf and people use sign language to communicate with their hands.’ We joined in with the sign language songs; I am a robot and I can sing a rainbow.

In provision we explored the autumn objects and used them to create leaf necklaces, leaf crowns, leaf collage people and collage trees. In maths, we have made three and four using numicon pieces and made collections of three and four.

We have enjoyed drawing around the leaf stencils and choosing autumn colours, making our ‘Dear Zoo’ books and list writing.

Outside we enjoyed collecting autumn objects to add to our autumn soup.
