Skell Class Blog

Welcome to the Skell Class blog!
In English we have continued to read ‘The Little Red Hen.’ We have looked at the hen life cycle and ordered and labelled the pictures. We have thought about baking bread and wrote a list of ingredients for the Little Red Hen. Ivar explained the bread needed yeast to ‘help it to grow.’ We have thought about adding a new ingredient to the bread such as chocolate chips and drew pictures and wrote labels. We have also looked at information about working on a farm and made our own farm books.
In Maths we have been comparing quantities, we have recapped the language more and fewer and looked at equal groups of objects. We know an equal amount is the same amount. We can say when there is an equal number, too many or not enough.
In Phonics we have recapped at the graphemes a, d, k, b, f. We have identified the initial sounds in words, identified the grapheme and can say the phoneme. We also tried very hard to write the graphemes! We have continued to practice the tricky words ‘is, I, the’ We have sounded out and blended words such as man, dip, got, hug . We have played blending games such as ‘ Can you h-o-p?’
In Learning Means the World we have continued to think about families and finished our family trees. We have talked about belonging to a group, we thought about school and shared if we go to any other clubs. Vinny explained he goes to football club.
In RE we have thought about how Christian’s believe that God created everything and how we need to take care of the world and the animals in it. Tommy explained how we need to help keep animals alive, by being careful when holding bugs. We also talked about how we can show love to animals, ‘we can pet them,’ Freddie suggested and we can ‘feed them.’
In provision we have made hen life cycle books, farm books, looked at groups of objects using the language more than, fewer than and equal to. We have enjoyed drawing and building farms and labelling the different animals, threading beads, painting and colour mixing.
