Skell Class Blog

We have had a very busy week in Skell class!

In English we have continued to read the story ‘Whatever Next.’ We have found out some facts about space and made books to share with baby bear.  Lewis explained that 'astronauts cannot cry in space and tears float away.'  Vinny shared, ‘there are no green stars.’ Theo explained ‘there is lots of rubbish in space,’ from space travellers from earth. We have also created our own story adventures for baby bear. I liked the story about baby bear visiting a new planet and meeting a dragon for cake and moon tea!

In Maths, we have recapped the ‘Five peas in a pea pod pressed’ song. We know we have five fingers on one hand and can count five objects carefully. We have used a die frame to show five. We have looked at circles and triangles and sorted into groups looking at the size and type.

In Phonics, we have been looking at graphemes sh, th, ng nk. We know these graphemes are called digraphs as two letters make one sound.  We have read the tricky words ‘she, he, of.’ We have sounded out and blended words such as shell, thud, ring and pink. We have read captions, such as ‘It is a mess in that bag,’ and written cvc words, such as fix and bell.

In Learning Means the World we have focussed on construction toys. We looked at the buildings: the Shard, The Louvre and the Eiffel Tower and discussed which construction toys would be best to use to build. Sebastian said ‘mobilo, to make the point on the Eiffel Tower.’

In RE, we have continued to look at the nativity story. We talked about our memories from Christmas and learnt that Christians think the most important present for anyone at Christmas is the baby Jesus. Tommy shared he likes to open his presents and Georgie likes to eat Christmas dinner.

In provision we have created our own junk model aliens, painted aliens and made playdough aliens. I liked the aliens with lots of eyes and arms! We played a space game similar to snakes and ladders, taking turns, recognising numbers on the dice and moving the correct number of spaces.

Outside it was fun to explore the frost and ice and make a tent and campsite for a camping trip.
