We have had a fun week in Skell class! Happy Elf Day!
We are looking forward to dressing up as elves and taking part in the different activities!
In English, we have read the story ‘The Gingerbread Man.’ We joined in retelling the story using the story language, made a story map, listed the ingredients needed to make gingerbread and ordered and labelled the instructions to make gingerbread.
In Maths, we have recapped subitising and made numberblocks four and five in different ways using cubes. We could talk about how we had arranged the cubes. Tommy said, ‘I have four on the top and one at the bottom, that makes five.’
We looked at circles and triangles in the environment and went on a shape hunt outside. Alfie told me he found a circle at the top of a tyre. We used positional language and played a game of Where is teddy? Kiari explained, ‘Teddy is under the chair.’ Etta explained, ‘Teddy is behind the shelf.’
In Phonics, we have been looking at words with a ‘s’ at the end and words with a ‘z’ sound at the end such as ‘zips’ and ‘bags.’ We have read the tricky words ‘we, me, be.’ We have sounded out and blended words such as ‘ducks, shells and sings.’ We have read captions, such as ‘His cats get on the bed to nap,’ and written cvc words, such as ‘cats and dogs.’
In Learning Means the World we have focussed on moving toys. We talked about how some toys move with a push and a pull. We have made our own pop-up elf puppets following instructions.
In RE we continued to look at the nativity story and talked about Christmas traditions.
In provision, we have made gingerbread man puppets, made The Gingerbread Man books, counted carefully and added buttons to the gingerbread man and painted characters from the story.
