Skell Class Blog

We have had a busy week in Skell Class.

In English, we continued to read the story ‘The Gingerbread Man.’ We looked at different versions of the story and talked about how they were different.

We have made our own version of the gingerbread story where Santa made a gingerbread man. The gingerbread man met a cat, a dragon and a troll and ran away from all of them. “Run, run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me. I’m the Gingerbread man.” The gingerbread man came to a river and a crocodile helped him cross. “Climb onto my tail, climb onto my back, climb onto my head.” “With a snip, snap, the gingerbread man was gone with only crumbs left.”

In Maths, we have looked at shapes with 4 sides and named the squares and rectangles. We have sorted shapes and discussed how the shapes are the same. Vinny explained, ‘They all have 4 sides.’ ‘It has 2 long sides and 2 short sides,’ said Alistair.

We folded paper carefully to make squares and rectangles, spotted squares and rectangles in the environment and thought about the activities we do during the daytime and nighttime.

In Phonics, we have recapped the sounds we have learnt this half-term. We have read the tricky words ‘he, she, we, me, be, his, her.’ written words such as shop, moth and ring.

In Learning Means the World we have looked at the characters from the ‘Toy Story’ film. We created our own Mr Potato Head paintings.

In RE, we have continued to look at Christmas traditions and thought about giving cards to friends and family.

In provision, we have made shapes with 4 sides using lolly sticks, gone on a shape hunt in the classroom, mixed different shades of green and created Christmas tree paintings. We have created our own story maps with new characters and ending for the gingerbread man. We enjoyed working in Santa’s workshop and tried hard to wrap up Christmas presents.

We all enjoyed the Christmas craft afternoon, icing biscuits, making reindeer food and making pipe cleaner Christmas trees!
