Happy New Y Save ear!

We hope you and your children had a wonderful, restful break. It has been lovely to see the children return with such enthusiasm, ready for a busy and exciting Spring Term 2026.

In English, we have been reading the story ‘How to Catch a Star.’ We have thought about what we can see in the book and written sentences and what we would wish for if we had a star.

In Maths, we have been using our subitising skills (seeing the quantity without counting)  to say how many dots there are in the arrangements, moving from dots in a line and arrangements of 2, to a focus on standard dice arrangements. We have continued to represent quantities in different ways, including by showing amounts on 1 hand ‘all at once’.

In Phonics, we have looked at the digraphs; ai, ee, oa and the trigraph igh. We have read words such as rain, wait, sheep, night  and soap and recapped the tricky words I and the.

We have started our new Learning Means the World unit; ‘ Under the Sea.’ We have talked about what we might find under the sea, “fish, sharks, whales, rocks, and coral,” were suggested. We talked about fishing and what might happen if we over fish. Kaia suggested, “There will be no fish left.” We looked at the life cycle of a fish and ordered the stages.

Next week we will start our 2 PE sessions on Tuesday and Friday. Please send you rchidl to school in their in PE kits.
