What a fabulous week!

In English we have started a new story, Stella & the Seagull. We have been writing some perfect sentences about the two main characters in the story. Vishruth reminded us 'we need Miss Lee's non-negotiables!'. Hollie-May told us that 'full stops go at the end of the sentence' and Arthur told us 'finger spaces need to go in between words otherwise it wouldn't make sense'.

Last week the children  completedthe year 1 phonics screening check. We have worked incredibly hard since the beginning of year 1 and especially this week on our phonics. We have been practising the digraphs, trigraphs and split digraphs we've learnt so far. We've been using our phonics to segment and spell, we've been sorting real words and fake words, and we've been doing lots and lots of blending.

In Maths we have been looking a position and direction this week. We have explored the language: right, left, forward, backward, above and below. The children used 9 frames to describe where their partner should move their counter using this directional vocabulary. Lots of us remembered our 'left' and 'right', which is a tricky concept to remember. Well done everyone!

In Learning Means the World, we have begun our new topic of 'Light Up the World'. We began with deciding what we would like to know about the sun and what we already know. Cheska said 'the sun is very very hot and it can burn.' Logan asked 'why does the sun look white?' We launched our new LMTW topic by exploring the different music that we think relates to light and the adjectives we use to describe light!

In RE, we are starting a new topic of 'How should we care for the world?' We are already a very caring class and our English books looks at ways to keep our beaches clean so we are going into this topic with LOTS of pre-exisiting knowledge on how to care for the world!
