Lovely Laver News

Welcome back to our Year 1 blog! We have had a busy, creative, and "maths-magical" week in the classroom. Here is a look at what we’ve been up to:
English: We Are Authors!
This week, the children officially became published authors. We put our imaginations to work to write our very own stories titled ‘The Bus Ride’. We practiced using our phonics to sound out words and made sure our characters had some very exciting adventures on their journey!
Maths: Exploring Teen Numbers
We kicked off the week by mastering our counting all the way to 20. But we didn't stop there—we’ve been looking "inside" the numbers to see how they are made. We now know how to find the hidden ten and how many extra ones there are in a number!
Art: Dancing Lights
In Art, we travelled all the way to the Arctic Circle! We learnt about the Northern Lights (the Aurora Borealis) and how they swirl through the night sky. The children created their own stunning artwork using vibrant colours to mimic the dancing lights.

Learning Means the World: What is a Friend?
We spent time reflecting on friendship and what it means to be a kind classmate. We brainstormed all the qualities of a good friend—like sharing, listening, and helping. To celebrate our ideas, we created a giant Friendship Paper Chain, where every link represents a way we can be kind to one another.

Important Reminders
* NumBots: Please keep practising your maths skills on NumBots at home! It’s a fantastic way to build "number confidence."
* Certificates: Keep an eye out! Certificates for hard work on NumBots will be handed out in class this week.
